I think we should use only much more fundamental arguments, and not such weak policy pointers, with not-so-broad support, based on the assumption that one loves open-source software. No matter how I love free-software, I think using such statements as above weakens the case against software-patents, which should not be granted because of one, very strong fundamental reason - they do not disclose any knowledge which the society would not have without awarding monopolies - so there is zero justification for granting them. |
